Reputed former boss of the Patriarca crime family in New England Luigi “Baby Shacks” Manocchio is set to go on trial along with his co-defendants on April 23 and now federal prosecutors are requesting a anonymous jury. Prosecutors have alleged that Manocchio’s ties to organized crime leads to the possibility of intimidation of prospective jurors. Manocchio along with his alleged associates are charged with extorting strip clubs and others for protection payments.

In documents filed in court prosecutors said the defendants in this case are dangerous and have maintained long term relationships to La Cosa Nostra a violent criminal organization. They also noted the extensive media coverage the trial is sure to receive and the lengthy sentences the defendants are facing as added factors. With all things considered an anonymous jury is necessary say federal prosecutors.
They would also like the jurors to be transported to and from the court house each day by the U.S. Marshals Service in addition to their anonymity being preserved. This procedure is known as partial sequestration and will insulate the jurors from any possible intimidation , intrusion, or harassment from any outside sources.
