Chicago mobster Michael “The Large Guy” Sarno was sentenced to 25 years in prison Wednesday afternoon in federal court which was the maximum term. A little over a year ago Sarno was convicted of running a racketeering enterprise which was connected to a gambling business. Prosecutors proved during the six week trial that Sarno had formed an alliance between the Chicago Mafia and the Outlaws motorcycle gang.

The case against Sarno was punctuated by the 2003 bombing of a video poker company that had been competing with Sarno’s Chicago Outfit linked video poker business. Also convicted along with Sarno in the case were Outlaw biker members Samuel Volpendesto , Mark Polchan , Anthony Volpendesto, and Casey Szaflarski.
Back in 2003 it was reported by sources that the imprisoned Chicago Mafia boss James Marcello ordered a restructuring of the Chicago mob and tapped Michael Sarno to oversee the Outfits on the streets. Federal prosecutors called for the max sentencing against Sarno because he was a Chicago mob boss and his history as a career criminal. Defense attorneys for Sarno dispute the contention that he was or is a crime boss in the Chicago Mafia and submitted over 100 letters from family , friends, and neighbors that portrayed him as a fine American and a good family man.
